In Rome

Day 1:

We're here!! I am writing this into notepad in the hotel in Rome so I can capture the raw emotion of the day. We've been awake for 24 hours as of right now and I think we might sleep forever after that journey.
We almost missed our flight out of Amsterdam. I was sitting there playing on our new Nintendo DSi and thought, wait...14:50 is 2:50 and the last time I looked at the clock it was 2:20 and that felt like an hour ago. Our itinerary said our plane left at 17:50 so in our sleepy 4 am heads 14:50 meant 5:50...which isn't true so we run our asses over to the plane and we're the last people on thank god!
So we made that, then we land in Rome at Fiumicino Airport which houses the least helpful people on the planet.
"Hi I'm from out of town, can you help me find my bags?"
"They're over there."
"Oh thank you, wait over where?" And in a flash they are gone again. Every person we spoke to at the airport trying to find our bags was totally rude, or didn't want to have anything to do with us. So finally after an hour or so of trying to find our bags we get to the train and we just miss it because we were looking for our bags and the next train that shows up is 1/2 hour late meaning we're waiting at the train for another hour. So after that we get off the train we walk for another 20 minutes to 1/2 hour to the metro which takes us two stops, we get out of the subway and our hotel is on the corner! It was the most spectacular place I've ever seen merely because we were soooo tired and we finally have a place to rest our feet. We then went for dinner at this little place up the street called Romantica something or other and it was amazing, a nice older italian gentleman sang us a couple of songs while we were finishing off dinner and made for a fantastic evening before going to bed.
All in all it's been a whirlwind so far but tomorrow we're going exploring while recovering from jetlag. Can't wait to see some history.

Take care!

Love Jason and Bonnie
